Daily Spread Betting Round-up
There was plenty of online betting action this weekend with JJ Spaun a 100/1 winner of the US Open. Fixed odds punters who backed the Californian would have been dancing with joy as Spaun won just his second PGA Tour event.
However, there were also plenty of big winning bets in our spread betting markets over the weekend and we have picked out three markets where canny punters got one over our trading team.
Please remember Spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit. They may not be suitable for everyone so please ensure you fully understand the risks involved.
The opening weekend of FIFA’s relaunched Club World Cup saw a big winning bet for punters on one of our classic football spread betting markets.
Bayern’s clash with Auckland City wasn’t a match for the neutrals, with the Germans scything through their semi-pro Kiwi opponents at will, but for buyers on the Total Goal Minutes spread, it would have been a great watch.
Before kick-off in the States, the spread was 231-246, but with the Germans 6-0 up at half-time, buyers were sitting pretty. The worry would have been if Bayern eased off fully, but they kept finding the back of the net to run out 10-0 winners. Total Goal Minutes settled at 470, with Thomas Muller’s 89th minute strike the cherry on the cake for buyers who won 224x their stake.
From the early rounds of the English Greyhound Derby, Brockos Diamond had been touted as the likely winner of England’s most prestigious Greyhound race. However, the warm favourite was rolled over by the outsider of the field on Saturday at Towcester.
In Droopys Plunge, Belgian trainer Patrick Janssens had the only UK-based runner in the final, with the other five runners all based in Ireland. Sent off with a Race Index spread of 8-11, a gutsy performance from Droopys Plunge saw him run down his rivals in the final straight to scoop £175k for Janssen and connections.
With the winning dog earning 50 points on the Race Index spread, greyhound spread betting punters who sided with Droopys Plunge won 39x their stake.
Always the bridesmaid never the bride? Not any more. South Africa finally managed to shake their bottlers tag in superb fashion as they despatched Australia in a thrilling World Test Championship Final at Lord’s over the weekend.
Three low scoring innings had left the Proteas chasing 281, which looked an even bigger target when Ryan Rickelton fell at 9-1. However, the man at the other end was about to play the knock of his life as Aiden Markram superbly guided his side to victory. Ably supported by Temba Bavuma who was effectively batting on one leg, Markram ran up a score of 136 before he fell with his side needing six runs to win.
Wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne struck the winning runs, but there was no doubt who had struck the decisive blow in the match with Markram the star of the show. Before the second innings began our traders priced his run spread at 26-30, but the centurion from Centurion made light work of that with the spread settling at 136.
Buyers on this cricket spread betting market would have been applauding as if they were inside Lord’s as they pocketed a big winning bet of 106x their stake.
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
